Pathanamthitta, the smallest district of Kerala, It is also known as pilgrim Capital of Kerala, the most prominent Sastha Temple of Lord Ayyappa of the Sabari Hills, attracts millions of devotees from all over India. Pathanamthitta is also the homeland of “snake boat race” and “Padyani.” Even though snake boat races were practiced in nearby backwater districts also, the snake boat races of Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district conduct it as a religious ritual & a devotion to Lord Krishna rather than a contest. Even the design & appearance of the boats also absolutely unique compared to other places those who conduct snake boat races. “The Padayani” is a unique ritual art form in and around Pathanamthitta. It is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakaali. The Padayani is an amasing combination of music, dance, painting and satire. Pathanmthitta also boast festivals & conventions for all religion that adds the important of this district as a pilgrim center, for instance Maramon Convention for Christians, Cherukolpuzha convention for Hindus & the Chandanakudam Festivals of Muslims also attract numerous people to this small district.
